Why? Because these four areas opted out of the recreation district several years back. Residents in those citiesΒ started their own recreation districts and therefore residents of the area haven't been paying taxes to supportΒ recreation inΒ Greenville County.
The average homeowner in these cities could expect a tax increase of about $20 a year, county spokesman Bob Mihalic told theΒ Greenville NewsΒ last week.

On Monday, theΒ the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors unanimously voted to take a position against pending tax increases on commercial property in the city limits of Greer.
The board forwarded thisΒ letterΒ to council.
The merger is expected to take effect July 1.
