Two Arrested In East Nashville Park Shootout

Police say a heroin deal went south on the east side.

EAST NASHVILLE, TN — An apparent heroin deal gone south led to a deadly shooting and crash on the east side.

Police arrested Crystal Taylor, 22, and James Bratchie, 26, in connection with the shootout at Shelby Park that killed Mark Matlock, 57, and left Angel Pendred, 32, recovering from injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Matlock attempted to escape the shooting, but crashed his car into an MTA bus, which had pulled up on a sidewalk in the confusion.

Police say Matlock, joined by Pendred, went to Shelby Park around 5 p.m. Tuesday to make a heroin sale and were robbed by Taylor and Bratchie, who are charged with criminal homicide.
