• There was no fire at the Elizabethton animal shelter (johnsoncitypress.com) — Local officials want residents to know the Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter never caught fire, despite alarming social media rumors. Firefighters traced a smoke smell to an overheated backup heating unit and quickly made things safe. Shelter director Shannon Posada says the building and animals are fine, and she’s urging the community to channel that concern into adopting pets who still need homes.

• Elizabethton Farmer's Market opens for the season (wjhl.com) — Elizabethton’s Farmer’s Market is now open Tuesdays from 4–7 p.m. June through September at 1208 West G Street, offering only locally grown and produced goods. Manager Donica Krebs says shoppers can buy fresh food while joining a new grant-funded “Pharmacy Fit” program that rewards light exercise with tokens for produce and food plants.

• Sycamore Shoals outdoor drama 'Liberty' ready for new season (greenevillesun.com) — Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton is gearing up for another season of “Liberty! The Saga of Sycamore Shoals,” the state’s official outdoor drama, with shows throughout June at Fort Watauga Amphitheater. Local history buffs can watch pioneer-era stories tied directly to Elizabethton’s past, including the Watauga settlement and Carter family, with affordable ticket options and a special free night for veterans and first responders.
