NASHVILLE, TN — As the coast-to-coast total solar eclipse of August 21 draws ever nearer, the weather forecast is coming into focus.

An hour-by-hour forecast for the midday Monday event is starting to come into focus and National Weather Service meteorologists are getting a better idea of what the skies will look like when the moon cuts off the light of the sun.

As of 7 a.m. Monday, things are looking pretty good. The NWS says cloud coverage during the duration of the eclipse and those clouds that are present will be "high level scattered translucent cirrus clouds."

  • Noon: 22 percent cloud coverage, temperature of 90
  • 1 p.m.: 27 percent cloud coverage, temperature of 90
  • 2 p.m.: 31 percent cloud coverage, temperature of 85
