1. Garrett was named as the eighth head coach in Cowboys history on Jan. 5, 2011, and he became the first former Dallas player to hold the team's head coaching job. Garrett played quarterback for the Cowboys from 1993 to 1999, starting nine games and throwing for 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. The team won two Super Bowls during that span.
2. Garrett is the fifth longest-tenured coach currently in the NFL, with only the household names of Bill Belichick, Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin and John Harbaugh coaching with one team for longer.
3. In Garrett's nine seasons coaching the Cowboys, the team went 85-67 in regular season play. However, he struggled to find any sort of success in the playoffs, posting a 2-3 record in the postseason and never leading Dallas out of the Divisional Round.
4. Despite the reports of Garrett and the Cowboys parting ways, the head coach has been conducting typical end-of-season exit interviews with Cowboys players, instructing them on his plans for their future and thanking them for their play during the season. Some players have opted out of the meetings because of the odd dynamic, according to Yahoo Sports.
5. Garrett started his coaching career in Miami during the 2005 season as the quarterbacks coach for the Dolphins. In 2007, he joined the Cowboys as offensive coordinator before taking on assistant head coaching duties during the 2008 season. He then was named the interim head coach in 2010 before officially being announced as the full-time head coach in January 2011.
