Drunk Driver Who Hit Seven Cars Arrested For Racing: Police

One person died and five, including two children were taken to area hospitals.

DALLAS, TX — One woman was arrested Monday evening after a crash killed her passenger and injured several people in other cars.

Carmelita Goodwin, 41, was driving northbound in the 300 block of S. Westmoreland Road while racing two other vehicles, police said.

Phillip Winston, 36, was riding in her front passenger seat.

During the race, Goodwin lost control and struck a Ford Edge driving southbound in the same block of S. Westmoreland Road, police said in a statement.

The Ford Edge became disabled in the left lane, and the 35-year-old driver and two children in the car were taken to a nearby hospital.

Goodwin's car then swiped a 2014 white Buick driven by a 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman. The man pulled the vehicle to safety on the side of the road, the statement read.

A Nissan Altima was then struck in the rear, causing serious damage. The woman driving the car, 32, turned to safety on Jefferson Boulevard.

Goodwin's car then rear-ended a Chevy Tahoe, driven by a 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman. The woman was ejected from the car as the Tahoe suffered severe damage, authorities said.

The driver and passenger of the Tahoe were both transported to Methodist Central Hospital with unknown injuries.

The Tahoe was then pushed into the rear of a Toyota truck, which contained a 37-year-old woman with a 47-year-old man. The uninjured driver stopped the truck in the right-hand lane.

Goodwin's car went on to hit a Nissan truck driven by a 54-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman, police said. The driver pulled over near where the crash occurred.

Goodwin's car then went through the intersection of Westmoreland Road and Jefferson Boulevard, where it struck a metal traffic signal pole and finally came to rest.

As her car struck the pole, Goodwin's passenger was ejected from the car, the statement read. He died from his injuries.

Seven vehicles were involved in crashes related to the racing, police said. Two other vehicles fled the scene.

The uninjured the drivers and occupants remained at the scene and were interviewed as Goodwin was transported to Baylor Hospital.

Goodwin was arrested for racing causing death and intoxication manslaughter and is currently booked in to Lew Sterrett Jail.
