Heat Advisory in Effect for All of North Texas on Thursday Afternoon

A heat advisory will be in effect for all of North and Central Texas on Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas issued an alert about the advisory on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the alert, heat index values will be between 105-110 degrees. That can lead to dangerous heat if precautions are not taken.

Residents should stay hydrated, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. Remember to never leave kids or pets in vehicles unattended.

Storms chances will increase late Thursday and continue through Friday as a cold front enters the region. That could mean strong gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rain.

Remember "when thunder roars, go indoors." Wait at least 30 minutes from the sound of the last thunder to resume any outdoor activities.

A few lingering showers and storms will be possible on Saturday with continued hot weather in place. The hottest days are expected to be Sunday and Monday as temperatures climb into the mid to upper 90s with heat index values between 105-110 degrees.

After mainly dry conditions on Sunday, isolated to scattered showers and storms are again possible on Monday and Tuesday, mainly for areas north of I-20.
