Strong to Severe Storm Threat in DFW on Wednesday Night

All hazards are possible, with the main threats being large hail and damaging winds.

The North Texas area will see a few strong and severe storms on Wednesday night, according to a National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas bulletin.

The NWS Fort Worth/Dallas issued the alert on Tuesday afternoon. According to the NWS, a broken line of storms is forecast to move across the area from west to east on Wednesday evening.

The threat for strong to severe storms is highest near and west of the I-35 corridor. All severe hazards are possible with these storms, but the main threats are large hail and damaging winds. There is also a low threat for locally heavy rainfall.

Residents should make sure they have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and have a safety plan in place.

The increased storm threat returns on late Friday night as a front approaches the region. The highest storm chances will shift from the northwest Friday night into much of North and Central Texas on Saturday.

That will bring with it the threat for a few strong to severe storms, as well as a threat for heavy rain leading to localized instances of flooding.

Behind the front, scattered storms and showers will linger mainly into Central Texas on Saturday. Most of that rain will clear out by Saturday night, with only a 20% chance for rain on Sunday morning across the far southeast.

In terms of temperatures, highs will be in the mid and upper 60s on Sunday.

Residents can expect to receive between 1-2 inches of rain with isolated pockets of over three inches in some areas.
