Thunderstorms This Weekend Could Lead to Flooding in North Texas

Thunderstorms are expected to affect much of the North Texas region on Sunday and into Monday. This weather pattern could lead to localized flooding.

The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas issued a bulletin about the forecast on Friday afternoon.

According to the bulletin, frequent lightning and gusty winds will also create hazards for outdoor activities.

The American Red Cross recommends paying attention to weather alerts and local information during thunderstorms. Residents who hear thunder should seek shelter in a sturdy building and move to an interior room on the lowest floor. Stay away from glass windows and doors.

It's also important to remember that no place outside is safe when thunderstorms are in the area. Anyone caught outside in a thunderstorm should keep moving toward safe shelter.

The forecast on Saturday is trending slightly cooler and less humid, with heat index values now expected to remain below Heat Advisory criteria.

However, it will still be hot and humid, with heat index values still reaching 100 to 104 degrees in some locations.

Residents who plan on spending time outdoors should continue to take heat precautions by staying hydrated, taking frequent breaks, and limiting strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.

Other heat safety tips include:

• Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol. Beverages with electrolytes can help protect about heat stress.
• Apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) every two hours.
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
• Take regular breaks in the shade.
