Austin Asian American Resource Center Schedules Exhibit

AUSTIN, TX — The City of Austin Asian American Resource Center’s (AARC) Community Art Exhibit Program has scheduled Ben Aqua’s Inter/sected and artist duo Messrs. Su’s A River Across the East and West in July.

An exhibit opening reception featuring an artist talk from Ben Aqua will take place on Friday, July 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Here are some details:

• In Inter/sected, local multidisciplinary artist Ben Aqua (Instagram: b3naqua) displays portraits that explores concepts of identity by subjects who belong to both Queer and Asian Pacific American communities. The show encourages participants to explore the myriad ways they self-identify while collaborating with the photographer to make pictures. Ben’s work has been exhibited internationally and published in Rolling Stone, NPR, SPIN, and Bloomberg Businessweek.
• Messrs. Su, the San Francisco based father-son duo Hsuan-Te and Pin-Chih Su, redefine the boundaries of Chinese water ink painting in A River Across the East and West. In their collaborative works, Pin-Chih layers his father’s traditional calligraphy with his original photographs and digital art. Their works offer the audiences a chance to reflect on the dialogues between traditional Chinese water ink painting and Western contemporary art.

Inter/sected and A River Across the East and West are part of the AARC’s Community Art Exhibit Program which displays artwork that celebrate the diverse and dynamic cultural heritage, history, identity and creativity of Asian American Pacific Islanders.
