Filmmakers Sophie Rousmaniere and Jay Minton of Issue Television, traveled to the country Cameroon with artist/activist Issa Nyaphaga to make a film about empowering the community through art and ended up helping to build a community radio station for public health and women’s rights issues. They brought along radio Pioneer and Austin rabble rouser Jim Ellinger of Austin Airwaves to complete the station in 2016.
Now, the team is completing a feature length film about this inspiring project. Laura Rice of KUT who has worked in African Community Development Radio will join Issa Nyaphaga, Jim Ellinger (Austin AIrwaves), and Jay Minton (Issue TV) for a panel discussion on the making of the film, development radio, the creation of the station and citizen journalism. These panelists comprise community leaders in driving public health information on an international level.
