Rojas Tapped To Key Mexican American Cultural Center Role

AUSTIN, TX — Michelle Rojas has been tapped as the new Culture and Arts Education manager for the Mexican American Cultural Center, officials announced on Wednesday.

According to the City of Austin Parks and Recreation department, Rojas has been with the department for 8 years, supervising the Montopolis Recreation Center where she was responsible for overseeing community programs, special events, and the operation of the center. She also played an integral role in the planning and development of the new Montopolis Recreation and Community Center scheduled to be open in late summer 2020, officials said.

Michelle spent her formative years in California and El Paso, Texas, according to a city-provided bio. Prior to her move to Austin, she supervised a community center in the City of La Puente California. She earned a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne.

"Michelle is committed to enriching the lives of the community she serves by providing opportunities to create community," city officials said in a prepared statement. "In her new role as MACC Manager, Michelle will continue to promote the MACC’s mission by overseeing the preservation, creation, presentation, and promotion of the cultural arts of Mexican Americans and Latino cultures."

City officials noted Rojas has a 6-year old son who is said to love the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center of which his mom is an integral part.
