Dead Body Found Inside West Campus Apartment Unrelated To UT-Austin Knifing Attack [UPDATED]

Hours after a student was fatally stabbed in broad daylight on campus Monday, police found another dead knifing victim in campus apartment.

AUSTIN, TX — A body found Monday evening in the West Campus portion of the University of Texas at Austin is unrelated to the fatal stabbing at the campus the same day, police said.

Police acknowledged during a Tuesday press conference that a body was discovered near the intersection of Nueces and 27th streets following a welfare check call. But at a subsequent press conference, police said the killing had nothing to do with the fatal stabbing of UT-Austin student Harrison Brown for which a suspect was quickly arrested on Monday afternoon.

It's unclear how the person died. Earlier reports categorized the incident as a stabbing, but that hasn't been officially confirmed.

Emergency officials said the body of a man believed to be in his 20s was found at around 8:15 p.m. inside a West Campus apartment Monday night. The discovery was made along the 2700 block of Nueces Street, and the man was pronounced dead shortly after being discovered.

Three other students were injured during the campus attack, although their injuries were not life-threatening. Kendrex J. White, another UT-Austin student, has been arrested in connection to the attack.

Police provided no further information citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

There was yet a second, non-fatal stabbing incident near the West Campus area on Monday. A man was stabbed after he tried to intervene in a dispute between a man and a woman on Monday afternoon by an unidentified suspect who fled the scene. Police later said that stabbing also was unrelated to the campus incidents (see Police Seek Public's Help Locating Suspect In Downtown Austin Stabbing).
