📰 News we're reading

1. UNT Health sits near Fort Worth hospitals. Finding training sites a 'game of Tetris' (kten.com) — Fort Worth's UNT Health campus is working closely with local hospitals like JPS to secure enough clinical training slots for its growing classes of nursing and medical students, a challenge that directly affects local healthcare staffing. Leaders describe clinical placements as a "game of Tetris," balancing student needs with limited teaching capacity amid a regional nurse shortage. Expansion plans in Dallas and Frisco aim to ease pressure while keeping Tarrant County central to training.

2. La Catrina's new location does a soft launch in Fort Worth's Historic Southside (fortworthreport.org) — A beloved Mexican gift shop, La Catrina, has relocated from Ridgmar Mall to the Connex container retail park in Fort Worth's Historic Southside, where it's in a soft-launch phase while finalizing hours. Owner Giovanna Villalpando aims to preserve Mexican artisan work, host future vendor markets, and build community by welcoming both Latino neighbors and curious newcomers into a nostalgic, culture-rich space.

3. Tiger Woods-backed luxury golf development tees up along hills of southwest Fort Worth (fortworthreport.org) — A massive Tiger Woods-backed golf and ranch community is rising just southwest of Fort Worth near Aledo, with homes averaging over $3 million and a TGR-designed course. Developers with deep Fort Worth ties say the project taps into the city's golf heritage and regional growth, adding luxury housing, equestrian facilities, entertainment spaces, and a commercial district along Highway 377.

4. Texas Clinic Owner Convicted in $26M Scheme to Defraud Military Health Care Program (lawenforcementtoday.com) — A Fort Worth mental health clinic owner has been convicted in a $26 million TRICARE fraud scheme that included a clinic in the city and others in Texas and Florida. Prosecutors say he faked medical records, misused doctors' identities and billed for unnecessary or nonexistent treatments, then spent millions on luxury items. Sentencing will be set by a federal judge later.
