📰 News we're reading

1. 2026 Michelin Guide Texas: Houston Adds 5 Bib Gourmands, No New Stars (houstoniamag.com) — Houston just picked up more new Michelin distinctions than any other Texas city, adding five Bib Gourmands and nine newly recommended restaurants while keeping all six of its stars. From Montrose to the Heights and Chinatown, dozens of local spots are now on the 2026 list, giving Houston diners fresh options to explore and celebrate across the city.

2. Harris County Precinct 4 shuts down 61 Flock cameras amid privacy concerns (abc13.com) — Harris County Precinct 4 has shut down all 61 Flock surveillance and license plate reader cameras in its parks, including those serving neighborhoods inside Houston's Loop, after residents raised privacy and data-access concerns. The move eliminates security cameras at nine parks and facilities while county leaders and law enforcement debate whether the loss will hamper crime investigations ahead of a Commissioners Court discussion next week.

3. Your chance to win a Jeremy Peña signed baseball and bat! (audacy.com) — Houston Astros fans can soon call in to Mix 96.5 for a shot at winning a Jeremy Peña–signed baseball and bat, with on-air trivia running October 12–16. Winners must pick up their prize at the station's Greenway Plaza office in Houston and meet simple email and mobile app requirements to redeem it.

4. Houston Democrats want to limit state powers in school takeovers. (texastribune.org) — Houston families watching the HISD takeover will want to know that local Democratic lawmakers and a Houston commission are proposing to sharply limit state power over struggling districts. Their recommendations would raise the bar for future takeovers, set stricter rules for state-appointed managers, and give Houston voters more say over when control of their schools returns locally.
