Suspect Sought In Attempted Sexual Assault In North Austin

Jogger struck by car along Rock Rose Avenue Monday before being sexually accosted in third case of sexual assault reported in recent days.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police are seeking help from the public in locating and identifying a suspect wanted in an attempted sexual assault in North Austin earlier this week, officials said on Friday.

The incident occurred at 11501 Rock Rose Ave. on Monday just before 6 a.m., according to a police press advisory. The victim was jogging alone on or near a sidewalk in the area when a dark vehicle with tinted windows struck her in what police believe was a targeted attack, officials said.

The woman fell to the ground after being hit before the man in the car exited his vehicle and stood over her, police said. He then is accused of touching the front bra area of the fallen victim before reaching for her groin area before leaving the scene, according to the police advisory.

The report is the second time in as many days that police have reported an attempted sexual assault in Austin. On Thursday, police sought help from the public in locating a suspect wanted in another similar incident at the Saratoga Apartments, 6307 Bluff Springs Rd.

In that incident, police said a woman walking at the complex on Thursday was accosted before being pulled to the ground. As she struggled to free herself from her attacker, the man is said to have punched her multiple times in the face before she was able to escape, police said. A description of the suspect in that case differs from the North Austin attempted sexual assault, as the man is described as a black male rather than being white or Hispanic. .

And in Leander, police seek a suspect connected to a sexual assault that occurred last month. The Leander Police Department on Wednesday released a sketch of the suspect in the hopes somebody might recognize him and alert detectives. The incident occurred on Monday, Aug. 16, at the 22 North Apartments, 149 S. Bagdad Rd. The suspect in that case is described as white and between the ages of 25-30 with a medium build standing at five feet, ten inches in height while weighing about 195 pounds.
