Hays County considering guidelines for AI use (kxan.com) — Hays County leaders in San Marcos are weighing formal rules for how county departments, including the Sheriff's Office, can use artificial intelligence tools. Proposed Axon technology would add AI transcription and translation to deputies' body cameras, potentially speeding reports and helping non-English speakers, while commissioners continue debating oversight, surveillance, and data-governance standards at future meetings.

From running gear to dirty sodas: Check out 8 businesses now open in San Marcos (communityimpact.com) — San Marcos residents have eight new spots to check out, from CarMax's first local lot and a new Core Running Company store to counseling services, campus dining, and a Swig dirty soda shop. Ikea to close small-format store in San Marcos 14 months after opening (expressnews.com) — Ikea is shutting down its small-format store in San Marcos' San Mar Plaza on November 1, just 14 months after opening along the I-35 corridor. The company cites a broader shift toward online shopping, delivery, and pickup, and has also closed a similar mini-store at The Domain in North Austin.

Layne's is taking over a former Zaxby's in this booming Texas town (lmtonline.com) — Chicken-finger favorite Layne's is continuing its Central Texas push, now renovating a former Zaxby's in nearby Buda while also celebrating a second San Marcos location at Texas State University. With restaurants already near campus and more planned between Austin and Waco, San Marcos residents can expect Layne's to remain a growing part of the local fast-food scene.
   

5. Austin burger chain reports ex-worker after disturbing food post (mysanantonio.com) — San Marcos diners who visit Buddy's Burger locations should know the chain has reported a former Austin employee to police after disturbing photos allegedly showed him contaminating food with bodily fluids. The company says the worker was fired immediately, restaurants have been rigorously sanitized, and Austin Public Health is investigating while the chain reviews its hiring and security procedures.
