🌱 Mental Awareness In Kids On 'Leading SA' + SAISD Gets 3D Printers
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in San Antonio.
Hi all. It's me, Gabriela Couvillion, your host of the Daily. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about what's going on around town...
First, today's weather:
A heavy t-storm in the p.m. High: 83 Low: 68.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in San Antonio who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our San Antonio Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Reena Pardiwala, Clinical Director for the Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine program (TCHATT) at UT Health San Antonio, answered questions regarding children's mental health issues on Leading SA. Pardiwala said, "One of the biggest things we want to look for as parents is isolation...our kiddos lacking interest in doing things. They're lacking energy. They're kind of hiding from family members. They no longer want to go to family events." She added, "There are also actually sleep issues. When you start noticing that your child is not sleeping as well, that's a really big indicator that maybe something is going on." For more on the program go to Community-Based Services for Children - Psychiatry (uthscsa.edu) and visit: (ksat.com)
- During Saturday's storms in San Antonio, The Hotel Indigo San Antonio-Riverwalk Hotel, located at 830 North St. Mary's Street, "sustained some wind damage." As part of the damage, "some of the metal roof was pulled off by strong wind." A crew was sent "to gather more information." For updates please visit: (FOX 29)
- The San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) Foundation, in partnership with SAISD schools, recently provided 13 SAISD schools with 3D printers to allow students to "express their creativity and learn along the way." Most excitingly is that "the 3D printers can be used in every subject. For example, at the library, a student can pick a book and print an object tied to the book, to re-tell or change the story." Janeth Renshaw-Montero, digital librarian at Schenck Elementary School, said, "They can create something, design something that they could actually print or maybe they need an extra hook to hang things in the classroom. Thinking of how we can print something that's useful to us and with purpose." (ksat.com)
- On Saturday, May 21, 38-year-old Salvatore Alfieri IV was arrested for " impersonating a San Antonio police officer to get inside a West Bexar County home and rob the homeowners" on Friday, May 20. According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, Alfieri "is facing a litany of charges stemming from Friday's incident, including impersonating a public servant, burglary of habitation with intent to commit felony, unlawful restraint and interference of emergency request for assistance." When asked how to "avoid becoming a victim of a crime like this," Salazar said, "law enforcement officers typically wouldn't be alone if they knock on your door. Plain-clothed officers usually bring a uniformed officer with them in a marked unit. The deputies or officers will be carrying ID and should have a search warrant. If there's a doubt, don't let them in." (ksat.com)
- A free Memorial Day Artisan Show will take place from May 27-30 at the San Antonio River Walk, near the Chamber of Commerce and the Shops at Rivercenter Mall. Visitors will be able to shop from "over 40 handmade artisan booths, including pottery, textiles, jewelry, woodwork, paintings, beadwork, and more." If interested in participating as a vendor, please email events@visitsanantonio.com with your name and company name, a list and description of your items, pictures of the items with one of you creating the items, and the first show that you want to participate in. Please note that consumable products are not permitted for sale. For more details on the vendor application process and rules visit: (thesanantonioriverwalk.com)
