📰 News we're reading
• San Antonio could test alternative to jail for some low-level offenses (sanantonioreport.org) — San Antonio leaders are weighing a six‑month pilot that would let police steer some low‑level trespassing and theft cases to a 15‑bed treatment facility instead of the Bexar County Jail. The $1.9 million program, jointly funded by the city, county and University Health, would start as early as January and initially focus on Central and Downtown SAPD areas while a broader diversion‑center study continues.

• Spamer: Near-shoring must evolve into loyal-shoring (riograndeguardian.com) — A North American trade summit in San Antonio spotlighted business leader Joaquin Spamer's push to shift from simple nearshoring to what he calls "loyal-shoring." Speaking at the 2026 NADBank Summit here, he urged companies and governments to strengthen regional supply chains and highlighted the fast-growing RioPlex border region as a model for competitive manufacturing.
