Pedestrian Killed In Austin After Being Struck By Vehicle

AUSTIN, TX — Yet another pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on an Austin roadway, the latest victim killed late Sunday following a week when three others on foot were similarly killed.

The latest incident occurred at around 11 p.m. along the 11600 block of Manchaca Road, according to Austin-Travis County EMS medics. The victim, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed off access to the road to accommodate their investigation, urging drivers to choose alternative routes. No further details were offered, including what may have caused the collision or whether the driver faces any charges as a result.

The incident marked the second pedestrian death in as many days in Austin. On Friday, a man believed to have been in his 20s was struck and killed by a vehicle as he tried crossing Interstate 35 near 6th Street in downtown Austin. The man was struck by an 18-wheeler as he attempted to cross the highway, police said.

The same week, two other pedestrians were killed:

• On Monday, Scott Gerald Whiting, 37, was killed along the 5700 block of West Parmer Lane by a motorist who fled the scene. The man's body was discovered near McNeil Drive by a bicyclist to happened to come upon it before calling police.
• Three days later on Thursday, a man in his 40s died after being hit by a vehicle along the westbound lanes of East Anderson Lane at Norwood Park Boulevard just before 9 am.
