Pedestrian Hit By Car In Pilot Knob

Collision at 7000 block of S. U.S. Highway 183 leaves man with life-threatening injuries in fourth pedestrian-car incident since February.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — A pedestrian was seriously injured Wednesday night, medics said.

The collision along the 7000 block of South U.S. 183 occurred just after 10 p.m. The victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to the South Austin Hospital for treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries, Austin=Travis County EMS medics said.

The incident was a hit-and-run. Sheriff's deputies were on the lookout for a black Ford pickup truck with an extended cab believed to have hit the victim, last seen traveling north on U.S. 183.

The incident marked the second time in as many days a pedestrian was struck in by a vehicle in the southern part of the region, and the fourth such incident since February — including two fatalities. Another collision late Tuesday, June 5, at the intersection of East Riverside Drive and Wickersham Lane left a man in his 30s with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, medics said.

In February, also in South Austin, another pedestrian was struck and killed by a car along the 7300 block of East Riverside Drive. According to police, Mark Antonio Rodriguez, 37, was hit while crossing mid-block across the street.

Two months later, on April 21, yet another pedestrian was struck and killed in South Austin. Police said Dystany Farrias, 31, was walking southbound along the 8100 block of South Interstate 35 service road near the right shoulder but partially in the lane of travel at about a quarter until 4 a.m. when a car hit her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman's death marked the second pedestrian death occurring that early Saturday morning. Across town in North Austin, a man in his 30s was killed along the 6100 block of North Interstate 35, near U.S. 290, just after 7 a.m.
