UPDATE: 'All Clear' After Reports Of Man With Gun At University of Texas-Arlington

An email alert was sent to students late Wednesday morning.

ARLINGTON, TX - An all-clear was given at the University of Texas-Arlington following reports of a man in army fatigues with a gun on campus. The campus asked students to shelter in-place but later resumed operations after the man was apprehended, no weapons were found and a sweep of the building was conducted.

The alert sent out to students at about 10:30 a.m. local time read, “UTA PD reports suspicious white male w/gun in army fatigues seen in arch bldg shelter in place & stay away from bldg until further notice.”

A tweet 17 minutes later said that “police are with the man spotted in the Architecture Building” and to remain in place until further notice.

The university at 10:53 said that the rest of campus can “resume normal operations” and that final exams would continue as planned.

At 11:12 the school gave the all clear, saying the suspect was apprehended and “no weapon found after multiple sweeps.”

The man was not a student, according to the UTA student radio station.


UT-Arlington is a large, public university in Arlington with a fall 2014 enrollment of 34,870.
