How Much Do Men and Women Spend on Valentine's Day?

The answer may surprise you

$142.31. That’s the amount of money the average person will spend on Valentine’s Day this year, according to the National Retail Federation. That’s up from $133.91 last year.

While 53 percent of people plan to buy candy for their special someone, one in five plans to buy jewelry. Thirty-seven percent of those surveyed will buy flowers, and more than one-third will spend on plans for a special night out, such as dinner and a movie.

It seems women are in for the biggest treat this year. Men will spend nearly double what women plan to spend ($190.53 versus $96.58 on average). Here’s hoping that some flowers and chocolate can bring a little romance into people’s live...or at least stop the fighting for a while.
