Cultural Arts Council Douglasville | Douglas County

The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/ Douglas County displays another year of exceptional talent from across the country at the National Juried Arts Show.
The NJAS exhibit will be displayed September 2nd – 29th at the CAC gallery, Monday- Friday from 9:00 am-5:00 pm. The opening reception and awards ceremony will be held on September 10th, 6:00-8:00 pm, hosted by the Douglas County Art Guild. Refreshments will be served, and the event is free and open to the public.
Come view the presentation of prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd&nbsp;place, Honorable Mention, and the DCAG award for a particularly remarkable work of art.
Come back throughout September to tour the exhibit and cast your vote for your favorite artwork. At the end of the month, one last cash prize will be presented for the People’s Choice award.

Sessions may be purchased individually or as a set of 2 at a reduced cost.&nbsp;Dates:&nbsp;Fridays September 11th &amp; September 25thTime:&nbsp;5 – 7 pmAges:&nbsp;8-17Cost for single session:&nbsp;$45 ($50 non-member)Cost for both sessions:&nbsp;$80 ($90 non-member)Instructor:&nbsp;Natisa Williams from Sewfluent!&nbsp;SESSION 1 – September 11: Personalized Drawstring Bag&nbsp;Required supplies:– 1 yard cotton fabric– Coordinating drawstring cord (2 pieces)– Matching thread– Fabric scissors– Pins or clips– Measuring tape– Seam ripper&nbsp;Description:&nbsp;Students will learn how to cut fabric, create a casing, stitch straight seams, and make a functional drawstring backpack while building confidence using a sewing machine.&nbsp;SESSION 2 – September 25: Personalized Pencil Pouch&nbsp;Required supplies:– ½ yard cotton fabric– 9″ zipper– Matching thread– Fabric scissors– Pins or clips– Measuring tape&nbsp;Description:&nbsp;Students will learn zipper installation, seam allowances, and basic construction while creating a personalized pencil pouch.&nbsp;***Note: Students can only join this club session if they have mastered beginner skills.***&nbsp;

This year, the CAC will celebrate the diversity of our community through a multicultural festival on September 12th from 11 am – 4 pm at the Cultural Arts Center grounds. In a world where sharing who we are and where we all come from is becoming the cornerstone to truly understanding our perspectives and paths in life, there is no better time to celebrate cultures and traditions. Douglas County High School

THIS&nbsp;EVENT&nbsp;IS&nbsp;FREE&nbsp;TO&nbsp;ATTENDIt’s the 30th anniversary of the CAC’s Chili Cook Off, and we are celebrating with an expanded Chili Cook Off &amp; Fall Festival event which will take place at both Douglas County High School and at the Cultural Arts Center on October 17th from 5-9 pm. Over the past three decades, the Chili Cook Off has become a favorite Douglasville tradition. It started in 1996 on the front porch of the Cultural Arts Center, then moved to O’Neal Plaza. Thirty years later in addition to all of the chili action at Douglas County High School, we are reincorporating the CAC property to serve as the location of the costume contest, sweet treat vendors, yard games and an art exhibit.
Last year more than 4,000 people joined in this festive evening of good food, fun, and entertainment as many local Douglasville celebrities presented the community with different flavors of chili. In previous years, local politicians, political parties, many candidates, local businesses, and non-profits competed to determine the best chili in Douglasville and Douglas County.
By purchasing booths and tickets, vendors and guests support the valuable work of the Cultural Arts Council.
