Americana Bluesman Jeff Smith returns to Mackenzies Tunes and Tonics (3950&nbsp;University Drive in downtown Fairfax) this Thursday May 28 at 7:30pm. Jeff' has a monthly residency at Mackenzies the fourth Thursday of the month. 
Jeff Smith is a musical raconteur, whose poetic lyrics paint common experiences and filtered memories with a tender or playful brush. Singing in a honey-drenched Appalachian drawl, multi-instrumentalist Smith lays down a brew of what he calls a funky kind of country blues folk pop rock stomp. Jeff's tunes have been featured on Young Sheldon, Army Wives, and The Young and the Restless.

The Falls Church Episcopal

As a musical prelude to our country 250th
anniversary, we present a celebration of the people, stories, and songs that give voice to the American spirit and our unique and varied musical identity.
The program begins with the traditions of Indigenous peoples and continues through the hymns of early settlers and the spirituals born from slavery, music that reflects both struggle and hope. As America grew, immigrant cultures enriched its musical landscape, leading to songs of unity and resilience from the Civil War through World Wars I and II. The journey continues to Broadway, where American stories and aspirations came vividly to life on stage.

The concert concludes with Randall Thompson’s The Testament of Freedom, a powerful musical affirmation of liberty and the enduring ideals that continue to define America and remind us of music's ability to bring people together.

<ul><li>Where is the event located?&nbsp;On the Plaza across from Cinemark and Coastal Flats.</li><li>Are children and dogs allowed to attend? Yes, as long as they are accompanied by an adult and supervised. This is a quiet reading event, so please be courteous of other event attendees.</li><li>Can I bring my own alcohol? Outside alcohol is not permitted. Visit Uncle Julio’s, Crafthouse, or PF Chang’s to purchase alcohol onsite to drink on the Plaza.</li><li>Is there seating? Yes! We will have extra chairs and tables at the Plaza; however, you are also welcome to bring your own chairs, mats, or cushions to make yourself comfortable. Plaza seating is first come, first served.</li><li>Will it be silent? Well, no. While we’re quietly reading, please keep in mind that this is an outdoor space, so ambient noise is to be expected. However, you do not need to talk to neighbors or other event goers if you do not wish to!</li><li>Is the event free? Yes!</li></ul>

You're invited to a talk by the author, Thrity Umrigar, who will be coming to the DMV. She will be speaking at the Fairfax Regional Library on Sunday, June 14 at 2pm (10360 North Street, Fairfax).
Her book, "Honor," was a Reese's Book Club selection, and her scope of work was a finalist for the PEN/Beyond Margins award.&nbsp; She'll be speaking about her new book, "Missing Sam," that was just published.
