My career in journalism began in 2003 after I landed an internship at MTV News in New York City while attending Concordia College in Bronxville. Since then, I have been writing every chance I can as an entertainment news freelancer and a community news editor.

For three years, I worked at the Herald Community Newspapers in Garden City, where I spent two years working as the editor of the Malverne/West Hempstead Herald.

After writing a series of news articles in 2008 about the West Hempstead community's fight to replace a problematic hotel with a luxury apartment complex, I won a third-place New York Press Association award for in-depth reporting in 2009.

My arrival at Patch is proof of what can happen when you stay committed to pursuing your dreams.

I earned my bachelor's degree in English from Concordia and my master's degree in journalism from Iona College in New Rochelle.

When I am not writing stories, I can often be found reading entertainment news gossip as well as spending time with the people that I love.

If you have news you would like to share, please call (516) 473-9041 or e-mail me at dana@patch.com.

Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible and human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal certain key beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.

This disclosure is not a license for our editors to inject these beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will force us to be ever mindful to write, report, and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you, the user, ever think you see evidence that we failed in this mission, we wholeheartedly invite you to let us know.

Politics

How would you describe your political beliefs? Depending on the issue, my beliefs vary completely. I think that fine line between liberal and moderate would be the closest description.
Religion

How religious would you say you are? Well, I attended religious schools from kindergarten through graduate school, so I definitely have a clear understanding of right and wrong. More importantly, I know I would not be where I am today without Jesus Christ, so although I am not a member of a church at the moment, I am well-aware of who is in control of my life.

Local Hot Button Issues

What do you think is the most important issue facing the community? The tax burden.

Where do you stand on this issue? Like many lifelong Nassau County residents, I have a lot of concerns and complaints about high taxes, but I do not have a cohesive plan of how to fix this problem just yet. However, I am working on it. To Be Continued.
