First-Ever OLLI Ideas Festival for Adults 50+ Set for May 8–9, 2026
Fairfax, Va. - The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University (OLLI Mason) will host its inaugural Ideas Festival on May 8–9, 2026, inviting adults ages 50+ to explore opportunities for lifelong learning, connection, and enrichment.
Held on the Fairfax campus, the free, two-day event will feature more than 20 classes, demonstrations, and activities spanning art, music, history, health, and more.
“Our goal is to inspire continued learning while connecting people with like-minded peers,” said Debbie Engleson, president of OLLI Mason. “This festival offers a dynamic introduction to everything OLLI Mason provides.”
Highlights include hands-on sessions such as watercolor painting, tai chi, and chair yoga, as well as a panel discussion, “Global Perspectives on Longevity,”
on Saturday, May 9 at 3:00 p.m., featuring George Mason faculty and experts.
Founded in 1991, OLLI Mason offers adults 50+ access to year-round classes, clubs, and social experiences, with flexible in-person and online options.
The Ideas Festival is free and open to adults age 50 and older. Attendees may participate in individual sessions and attend one or both days.

Olli Ideas Festival - An Open House for Curious Learners

Mackenzie's Tunes & Tonics

Sunny@Midnight (Jeff Smith and Sherry Stewart) return to Mackenzie's Tunes and Tonics (3950&nbsp;University Dr. in downtown Fairfax) with their super-sized quintet this Saturday May 9th at 8 pm. Jeff and Sherry will be joined by Ron Goad (percussion), John Werntz (bass), and Marcy Cochran (fiddle) for the no cover concert.
Jeff Smith is a musical raconteur whose poetic lyrics paint common experiences and filtered memories with a tender or playful brush. Singing in a honey-drenched Appalachian drawl, multi-instrumentalist Smith lays down a brew of what he calls a funky kind of country blues folk pop rock stomp.
Sherry Stewart writes songs about people, places, and things that have left an impression on her. Themes often evoke nature and leave the listener with a sense of longing only heightened by her angelic voice and vocal harmonies. She accompanies herself on mandolin, guitar and flute whether she is playing solo or with others.
