Heavy smoke rises from fire near apartment building in Salt Lake City (abc4.com) — Fire crews are battling a three-alarm commercial structure fire at 356 W. 700 South in downtown Salt Lake City, near The Hendry apartments, and are urging people to stay away from the area to keep roads clear. Smoke and flames are visible from nearby high-rises, and officials are sharing basic fire-prevention tips while they work to contain the blaze.
   

2. Fire in Granary District sends up plume of black smoke over downtown Salt Lake City (sltrib.com) — A three-alarm fire at a commercial building on 700 South sent thick black smoke over downtown Salt Lake City Sunday evening, prompting firefighters to ask people to avoid the Granary District area. The blaze is near The Hendrey apartments, with multiple trucks on scene and traffic impacts around Interstate 15 as crews continue working to contain the fire.

USA Climbing Foundation Announces 2026 Foundation Award Recipients (climbingbusinessjournal.com) — USA Climbing Foundation has announced its first-ever Foundation Award recipients and will honor them in person during the World Climbing Series stop in Salt Lake City on Saturday, October 17. With the celebration and men's boulder finals both happening here, local climbing fans can look forward to national-level competition and a chance to see influential coaches, volunteers, and community leaders recognized just blocks from home.
