Believe in God and His promises, speakers teach in the October 2026 general conference (thechurchnews.com) — Thousands gathered in downtown Salt Lake City this weekend for the 196th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where leaders urged members to trust God's promises and remember His blessings. Speakers at the Conference Center emphasized spiritual "lift," personal testimony of Jesus Christ, and patient faith during trials, offering messages many local residents may have watched or attended in person.
   

2. 'Through the Decades': West High hosts car show to celebrate its own history, raise funds for student base (abc4.com) — West High School in Salt Lake City hosted its first "Through the Decades" classic and custom car show to celebrate more than a century of school history and raise money for student programs. Community members, alumni, and students in period costumes showcased cars by decade, with proceeds supporting activities, athletics, travel, and a legacy fund as the school prepares to move campuses in five years.
   

3. Non-profit holds event asking Salt Lake City residents to donate bikes for people in need (abc4.com) — Salt Lake City residents are being asked to donate outgrown bikes to Free Bikes 4 Kidz, which refurbishes them and pairs them with children who otherwise couldn't afford one. Volunteers repair the bikes at a local warehouse, then distribute them with new helmets through community partners at a big December giveaway, and donations continue beyond the official collection day.

'Open Your Eyes': 9th and 9th whale celebrates new mural with 'Whale Fest' (abc4.com) — Salt Lake City's 9th & 9th neighborhood just unveiled a colorful new "Open Your Eyes" mural on the beloved "Out of the Blue" whale sculpture, celebrated with a lively Whale Fest. Neighbors joined Mayor Erin Mendenhall, artists, vendors, and performers for contests, a parade, and music, as the refreshed artwork honors the Great Salt Lake and the city's changing, inclusive character.
   

5. U hosts Gulf States Forum offering insight into geopolitics and diplomacy – The Daily Utah Chronicle (dailyutahchronicle.com) — A recent Gulf States Forum at the University of Utah brought scholars, students, and Utah's former governor together in Salt Lake City to unpack the Iran War's regional fallout and Gulf diplomacy. Honored alumnus and GCC secretary general Jasem Albudaiwi credited the Salt Lake City community and campus with shaping his diplomatic outlook and supporting Kuwaiti students during past conflict, offering advice to today's international students.
