Vermont community unites for 2026 Walk to Defeat ALS (burlingtonfreepress.com) — Burlington residents are invited to Oakledge Park on Sept. 26 for the 2026 Walk to Defeat ALS Vermont, raising money for research, care, and advocacy. The statewide event, led this year by St. Albans resident and ALS patient Kiah Coble, highlights community support for people living with the disease and offers easy online registration and donation options.
   

2. Trial set for man accused of stalking Burlington Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak (mynbc5.com) — A criminal trial is set for later this year for the man accused of stalking and harassing Burlington Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak, with jury selection scheduled for December. Court records describe multiple confrontations that left the mayor feeling unsafe, while a judge has ordered the defendant to stay 300 feet away and avoid any contact with her.
   

3. Women+ on the Edge of Democracy Brings More Than 30 New Plays to Theaters Nationwide (newyorktrendnyc.com) — Burlington's Flynn Center will host a marathon world premiere of "Women+ on the Edge of Democracy" this October, showcasing new plays that explore how Americans experience democracy. The national initiative, launched from Burlington in partnership with a major playwriting prize, will also send these works to theaters across the country for readings and performances.
   

4. Group pushes for more state transit funding in Burlington (mychamplainvalley.com) — Public transit riders in Burlington are being urged to join a new "Ride Public" campaign pushing Vermont lawmakers for stable, long-term funding for bus service. Advocates say Green Mountain Transit's recent route cuts, including airport and commuter lines, show how underfunding hurts workers, students, seniors, and people with disabilities across Burlington and beyond.
   

5. UVM field hockey dominates Merrimack (wcax.com) — In Burlington, UVM field hockey continued its strong season with a 6-0 shutout of Merrimack at Virtue Field, highlighted by a hat trick from Alicia Battistelli. The Catamounts, now 6-1, next visit regional rival Dartmouth before starting America East play against New Hampshire in a rematch of last year's conference final.
