• Fall 2026 K-5 STEM academy registration now open (statesville.com) — Families in Abingdon can now register K-5 students for the Fall 2026 STEM Academy at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, running Tuesday evenings from Oct. 27 to Nov. 24. The five-week program offers hands-on science, technology, engineering and math activities, costs $35 total, and requires a parent or guardian to remain on-site during each session. 
• EO Companies grant-backed expansion in Abingdon to add after-school program for 100 kids (wcyb.com) — Abingdon families can look forward to a new EO Companies after-school and summer enrichment program expected to open in 2027, serving about 100 local kids. Backed by nearly $1 million of a larger federal childcare investment, the expansion will add outdoor space, classrooms, and jobs while helping address Washington County’s significant shortage of licensed care for younger students.
