Get Batty at Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Annandale

Go on an evening bat hike, use a sonar detector to identify bat calls and enjoy games and crafts at Bat Fest Saturday.

Hidden Oaks is also the site of Bat Fest scheduled for Saturday. Leslie Sturges, wildlife rehabilitator and licensed exhibitor will present live local bats from 7 to 9 p.m. Go on an evening bat hike using a sonar detector to identify bat calls and enjoy games and crafts. Get Batty About Bats on Friday, Sept. 19 at Riverbend Park. Through games and activities, learn why bats are disappearing from our skies. The one-hour program begins at 6 p.m. Bring a toasting stick; s’mores will be provided. The cost is just $5 per person. Register with Parktakes Online. For information, call 703-759-9018.

You can also get batty at the Batty Campfire at E.C. Lawrence Park on Saturday, Sept. 20. Use a bat detector to hear bats communicate and hunt from 7 to 8 p.m. Enjoy the night hike and have s’mores.
