1. Community groups: Fix Gallows Road traffic issues before approving new housing (annandaletoday.com) — Community groups near Annandale are pressing Fairfax County to require two new traffic lights on Gallows Road by Woodburn Elementary before approving a 32-home development there. They argue the crossing is one of Mason District's most dangerous, citing speeding and near misses, and want decisions delayed until a Gallows Road transportation study is finished later this year.

2. Alexandria apartment rents follow cyclical norms, cooling with the fall temperatures (alxnow.com) — Annandale renters are paying a median of $2,184 a month, as new data show local apartment prices easing slightly while following typical seasonal patterns. The report compares Annandale's rents with nearby communities like Tysons, Reston, Arlington, and Alexandria, and places these trends in the context of a gradually tightening national rental market.

3. Morning Notes for October 6, 2026 (ffxnow.com) — For Annandale readers, a notable local connection emerges as a former Annandale Volunteer Fire Department ambulance, deployed to the Pentagon on 9/11, now serves as a mobile firefighting museum in West Virginia. The regional news roundup also covers proposed Metro fare hikes, a new Fairfax County development-tracking map, local restaurant changes, and federal funding for Chesapeake Bay cleanup efforts.

4. FCPS considers new boundary scenarios for the Glasgow pyramid (annandaletoday.com) — Families living west of Annandale Road could see their children reassigned under new Fairfax County Public Schools boundary scenarios for the Glasgow Middle School pyramid. Several options would shift small numbers of students among Beech Tree, Timber Lane, Graham Road, Glasgow, Jackson, Justice, and Falls Church schools, with a final recommendation expected this fall and a school board decision planned for January.

5. Fairfax leaders urged to consider ranked-choice voting for upcoming supervisor races (ffxnow.com) — An Annandale high school student is urging Fairfax County supervisors to consider using ranked-choice voting in upcoming Board of Supervisors elections. He and other advocates say the system encourages broader support and fairer outcomes, while county leaders have yet to request a formal readiness assessment from election officials despite other Virginia localities already adopting the method.
