4 Famous People You Didn't Know Were From Arlington
Some famous individuals call Arlington home who might surprise you.
ARLINGTON, VA — As the home of the Pentagon and as a key suburb of our nation's capital, it's not surprising that a lot of powerful politicians, military leaders and journalists reside in Arlington today, but there are some rather interesting and famous people who have either been born or grown up here that you would have never guessed would call Arlington home. Here's four of them.
1. Katie Couric -- Many network TV journalists call Arlington home, since their job often requires them to live in the D.C. area. But Couric was actually born in Arlington. Her father was a news editor at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the United Press in Washington, D.C. She was brought up through the Arlington Public School system, starting with Jamestown Elementary, proceeding through Williamsburg Middle School and graduating from Yorktown High School.
2. Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine -- The famous siblings were born in Richmond, but moved to Arlington's Dominion Hills neighborhood when they were kids. Beatty was a star football player at
Washington-Lee Highway, and got his start in showbusiness at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C.

4. Patch Adams -- Adams, who was portrayed by the late comedian Robin Williams in the 1998 film named after him, was born in D.C. but graduated in 1963 from Wakefield High School in Arlington. Adams wasn't happy with how the film turned out, saying it only portrayed him as a funny doctor, and that Williams never donated money to his free hospital.
