Amazon announced it is hiring people for 150,000 seasonal jobs across the U.S. including 3,700 in Virginia. Starting pay is $18 per hour.

VIRGINIA — With the holidays rolling around, Amazon announced on Monday that it is hiring people for 150,000 seasonal jobs across the U.S., including 3,700 in Virginia, with starting pay of $18 per hour.
The seasonal roles in Virginia are in addition to the new jobs getting filled at the Amazon HQ2 in Arlington and the 2,700 full- and part-time operations jobs announced earlier this year.
"We are proud to be offering a huge range of full-time, part-time and now seasonal jobs with great pay and benefits," said Alicia Boler Davis, senior vice president of global customer fulfillment. "Our seasonal hiring helps us deliver on our promises to customers while also providing flexibility to our full-time employees during busy periods. Joining Amazon in one of our seasonal roles offers high-paying, part-time work or a path to a full-time position, with benefits like our Career Choice program to help people advance their education and careers within Amazon or beyond."

Jobs in Amazon's operations network include stowing, picking, packing, shipping and more. New hires will be fully trained, and all facilities follow strict COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
Seasonal employees will help support full-time employees across more than 250 new fulfillment centers, sortation centers, regional air hubs and delivery stations that opened in the U.S. in 2021.

Along with Virginia, states with the greatest number of seasonal roles include Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas.
In April, Amazon announced plans to build a new robotics fulfillment center on a 119-acre site at the Richmond Raceway in Henrico County. The facility, the first of its kind in central Virginia, is expected to open in 2022.
The company will build a multi-story, 650,000-square-foot facility with robotics technology at the site, adding more than 1,000 new jobs to Amazon's existing workforce of 27,000 full- and part-time employees in the state.
Almost three years ago, Amazon announced it had picked Arlington County as the site for its second headquarters, or HQ2. The company is looking to accommodate as many as 25,000 new workers in Arlington in the coming years.
Between 2010 and 2020, Amazon invested $34 billion in Virginia, a large part of which was for the opening of the new headquarters in Arlington. According to the company, Amazon’s main investments in Virginia include:
- Arlington headquarters
- Eight fulfillment and sortation centers
- Eight delivery stations
- Three Prime Now fulfillment centers
- 15 Whole Foods Market locations
- One Amazon Fresh fulfillment center
- 14 solar farms
