Arlington Coronavirus: Lowest Number Of New Cases Since July 6

ARLINGTON, VA — Virginia Department of Health reported two new cases Thursday of COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, in the Arlington Health District. That's the lowest number of new cases reported on a single day since no cases were reported on July 6. The total number of confirmed cases stands at 3,997.

Virginia health officials also reported no new deaths due to COVID-19 Thursday in Arlington. The last new death was reported on Tuesday. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District is 150.

To date, there have been 500 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in Arlington.

There have been 148,721 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 3,228 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 11,092 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

VDH reported Thursday that 66,870 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 3.4 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 2,225,630 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 4.8 percent positivity rate, according to VDH.

There have been 19 outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Thursday, with 573 cases related to an outbreak, with two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings. There have been 221 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health care workers.

Globally, more than 34 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 1 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday morning. In the United States, more than 7.2 million people have been infected and over 207,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
