Arlington Coronavirus Update: 18 Additional Cases, No New Deaths

ARLINGTON, VA—The Virginia Department of Health reported 18 new coronavirus cases Thursday, bringing the total to 3,134. The total of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District stands at 135. The last time VDH reported a new death in the health district was on July 31.

In the health district, there have been a total of 437 hospitalized patients to date.

As of Thursday, there are 103,622 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 2,363 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 8,592 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

There have been 18 coronavirus outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Thursday, with 547 cases related to an outbreak. There have been 13 outbreaks at long-term care facilities, two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings in Arlington. There have been 182 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington health care workers.

On Thursday, Virginia health officials reported 41,991 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 4.4 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 1,414,449 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 7.5 percent positivity rate.

Globally, more than 20 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 750,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday morning. In the United States, more than 5.2 million people have been infected and over 166,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
