Arlington Coronavirus Update: 3 Additional Deaths; 112 New Cases
Virginia Department of Health confirmed three new deaths from COVID-19 in Arlington, the most reported in one day since June 26.
ARLINGTON, VA — Virginia Department of Health confirmed 112 additional cases of COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, Tuesday in the Arlington Health District. That's down from the 112 new cases reported Monday and the 152 on Sunday.
The 152 reported on Sunday is the most new cases reported in a single day in Arlington. The total number of cases in the county stands at 6,944.
Three new deaths were reported in the Arlington Health District on Tuesday. That's the most new deaths reported in Arlington since five were reported on June 26. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District now stands at 161.

A total of 603 people have been hospitalized in Arlington due to COVID-19.
VDH reported a total of 35 outbreaks of COVID-19 in the Arlington Health District on Tuesday. There have been 24 outbreaks at long-term care facilities, seven in a congregate setting, three in health care settings, and one at a college or a university.

VDH also reported 10 new outbreak-associated cases, bringing the total number of cases connected with an outbreak to 723. There have been 261 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health care workers.
VDH reported that 117,950 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 9.1 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 4,108,455 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 10.5 percent positivity rate.
There have been 262,730 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 4,260 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 15,467 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
The seven-day average of daily cases in Virginia went above 3,000 for the first time on Monday, according to Virginia Department of Health data. As of Tuesday, the average is 3,238 cases. There were 3,860 new cases reported on Tuesday.

Globally, more than 67.8 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 1.5 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Tuesday morning. In the United States, more than 14.9 million people have been infected and over 284,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
