Arlington Coronavirus Update: No Additional Deaths; 9 New Cases

ARLINGTON, VA — The Virginia Department of Health reported Thursday there were no news deaths in the Arlington Health District due to COVID-19, the disease associated with the new coronavirus. This comes one day after health officials reported without the first new death reported for the health district in 10 days. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District stands at 132.

There are nine new cases of COVID-19 in the Arlington Health District as of Thursday morning, bringing the total number of cases in the health district to 2,567.

In the health district, there are currently 423 hospitalized patients, one more than Wednesday.

Arlington County reopened its drive-thru COVID-19 Sample Collection Site on Tuesday. The county is operating the 1429 N. Quincy Street site in partnership with Quest Diagnostics. Patients must be 18 and older to receive a test at this site, which is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Although no appointment is necessary, all patients must have an existing order fro COVID-19 testing from a licensed health care provider. Those coming to the site for testing must remain inside their cars.

As of Thursday, there are 67,988 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 1,937 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There are currently 6,625 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

There have been 17 coronavirus outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Wednesday, with 543 cases related to an outbreak. There have been 12 outbreaks at long term care facilities, two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings in Arlington. There have been 173 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington health care workers.

On Thursday, Virginia health officials reported 25,458 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 5.4 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 829,793 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 6.1 percent positivity rate.

Globally, more than 12 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 550,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday morning. In the United States, more than 3 million people have been infected and over 132,000 people have died from COVID-19.

• 0-9: 49 cases
• 10-19: 104 cases
• 20-29: 455 cases
• 30-39: 465 cases
• 40-49: 436 cases
• 50-59: 383 cases
• 60-69: 286 cases
• 70-79: 175 cases
• 80+: 203 cases
