Arlington Wins Funding For 10 Transportation Projects In $776M NVTA Program
Arlington received funding for 10 transportation projects after NVTA approved a $776 million regional program.
ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County secured funding for 10 transportation projects after the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority approved a $776 million six-year funding program supporting 21 transportation projects across the region.
The funding package, adopted July 9 by the NVTA, commits regional transportation revenues to roadway, transit, bicycle and pedestrian, technology, and intersection improvement projects throughout Northern Virginia. Eight jurisdictions submitted 27 applications seeking a combined $1.265 billion, with the authority ultimately funding 21 projects.
Arlington received funding for 10 projects, the most of any jurisdiction. Other localities receiving awards include Fairfax County (one project), Loudoun County (two projects), Prince William County (four projects), the City of Alexandria (one project), the City of Falls Church (one project), the City of Manassas (one project) and the Town of Herndon (one project).

Arlington County Projects Receiving Funding
The following Arlington County projects were approved for funding:
- South George Mason Drive Multimodal Improvements (Columbia Pike to South Dinwiddie Street): $28.7 million
- Arlington Boulevard Trail – North Side (North Granada Street to North Jackson Street): $15 million
- South Glebe Road and West Glebe Road intersection improvements: $10 million
- North Glebe Road at I-66 westbound off-ramp intersection improvements: $10 million
- North Glebe Road at Quincy Street/Henderson Road intersection improvements: $5 million
- Performance Parking Initiative, Phases 2 and 3: $4.6 million
- South Glebe Road and 7th Street South intersection improvements: $3 million
- Next Generation Bus Rider Information: $2.5 million
- Custis Trail widening and modernization: $2.4 million
- Eads Street Multimodal Improvements (15th Street South to 23rd Street South): $2 million
Across the region, Fairfax County received $116.3 million for the Richmond Highway Bus Rapid Transit Phases I and II project. Loudoun County received $200 million for the Route 50 North Collector Road project and $1.6 million for Colonial Highway pedestrian safety improvements.

Prince William County received funding for four projects totaling $295 million, including the $179 million Van Buren Road North Extension and the $65 million Route 15 Railroad Overpass and Improvements Project.
The City of Alexandria received $15 million for Duke Street Transitway Phase 2 improvements, while the City of Falls Church was awarded $30 million for Annandale Road multimodal improvements. The City of Manassas received $30.3 million for Phase 1 of the Manassas VRE Line Rail-with-Trail project, and the Town of Herndon received $4.4 million for South Elden Street corridor improvements.
According to NVTA, the adopted funding program includes five roadway projects, two intersection and interchange projects, three transit projects, nine bicycle and pedestrian projects, and two technology projects.
"This program represents a significant investment in Northern Virginia's transportation future," NVTA CEO Monica Backmon said in a statement. "By funding projects across all modes of travel, we are advancing solutions that reduce congestion and support the region's continued growth and economic competitiveness."
The authority said the funding recommendations followed a yearlong evaluation process that included technical analysis, committee review and a 45-day public comment period that generated 702 public comments.
With adoption of the latest program, NVTA has committed nearly $4.5 billion through eight regional funding programs supporting 153 transportation projects.
