ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police Department was one of the many area law enforcement agencies to respond to a request for assistance Wednesday at the U.S. Capitol.

The Metropolitan Police Department had asked for mutual aid assistance for planed events on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Ashley Savage, a public information officer with ACPD.

"Arlington County agreed to this request and provided officers to assist our regional law enforcement partners in maintaining peace and order in the event of a significant disturbance or unrest," she said.

On Wednesday afternoon, Pro-Trump demonstrators breached police lines and forced their way into the U.S. Capitol. The U.S. Capitol Police requested assistance from MPD and other local jurisdictions to help clear the building and set up a perimeter around the Capitol.

At no time during their deployment were any Arlington officers injured, according to Savage.
