Assault Charge Filed Following Larceny In Crystal City: ACPD Report

Arlington County Police arrested a 30-year-old man who they say assaulted an officer responding to the report of a larceny in Crystal City.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police arrested a 31-year-old man on Saturday in connection with the assault of a police officer Saturday afternoon outside a Crystal City business.

Police responded around 1:41 p.m., for the report of a larceny at a business in the 1200 block of S. Hayes Streed. The arriving officer determined that a man entered the business, concealed merchandise and then left without paying.

After locating the suspect near 15th Street S. and S. Fern Street, the officer tried to detain the man. The suspect resisted, pushed the officer away and attempted to strike the officer, according to police.

An off-duty officer who was driving nearby saw the scuffle, got out of their vehicle and helped to take the suspect into custody.

The suspect, whom police identified as Marcus Bailey of no fixed address, received minor injuries but refused medical treatment. He was charged with assault on police, petit larceny and obstruction of justice. Bailey was arraigned on Monday and is due back in court at 11:30 a.m., on May 2 for his preliminary hearing.

This was not the first time ACPD has arrested Bailey, according to court records.

On July 7, 2021, Bailey was arrested on felony charges of grand larceny and possession of Schedule I or II controlled substances and misdemeanor charges of driving without a license, failure to drive on the right side of the highway, and disregarding a crossing guard or officer. The prosecutor declined to prosecute the case.
