'Assault On Police' Charges Filed Against Alexandria Man: Police

Arlington County Police arrested a man they say was driving erratically and later resisted arrest Sunday night in the Green Valley area.

ARLINGTON, VA — A 45-year-old Alexandria man is facing multiple charges, including two counts of assaulting police officers, in connection with an incident that occurred Sunday night in the Green Valley neighborhood.

Officers responded around 6 p.m. for the report of a suspicious vehicle in the 3500 block of 22nd Street S. They encountered a man driving a vehicle erratically, who then exited the vehicle and left it running in the road, according to police.

As the suspect walked away from the vehicle, an officer ordered him to stop, but the man ignored the command and continued to walk away, according to police.

With the help of another officer who had just arrived on the scene, another attempt was made to take the man into custody, but he resisted arrest, grabbing at the officers.

With the help of a third officer, the suspect, who was later identified as Travis Singleton of Alexandria, was taken into custody, according to ACPD.

During the arrest, officers recovered suspected narcotics, according to police. The suspect was then taken to a nearby hospital, but he continued to be combative and tried to bite an officer.

ACPD arrested Singleton, charging him with attempted malicious wounding of law enforcement, two counts of assault on police, obstruction of justice, and driving under the influence.
