Malicious Wounding Charge Filed Following Argument In Crystal City

ARLINGTON, VA — A 39-year-old Portsmouth, Virginia man is facing multiple charges including malicious wounding, in connection with an argument early Sunday morning in Crystal City, according to Arlington County Police.

Officers responded around 4:18 a.m. for the report of a man and woman arguing in building located in the 2000 block of Richmond Highway. A preliminary investigation revealed that a male suspect assaulted a woman he knew, pointing a firearm and threatening her, police say. The suspect then took the woman's phone and prevented her from leaving a room to find help.

When the victim tried to retrieve her phone outside the building, the suspect hit her, causing a laceration, according to police. The man then left the area on foot. After a lookout was broadcast, police found the suspect in the 2200 block of S. Eads Street.

Although victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, she did not need medical attention. Medics arrived to treat the woman, who they then took to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

ACPD arrested and charged Aaron Worrell of Portsmouth with malicious wounding, robbery, abduction, brandishing, use of a firearm during commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by felon.
