OneWeb is planning the constellation of 700 low-orbiting satellites to enable affordable Internet access worldwide by 2019, according to a news release from Monday Properties. The company recently announced the largest commercial rocket purchase in history along with a $500 million Series-A funding round including leading international companies such as the Airbus Group, Hughes Network Systems, The Coca-Cola Company, Richard Branson’s Virgin Group and more.

“Its important for us to have a presence in the heart of the DC area as we pursue our goal of connecting the entire world to affordable broadband Internet,” said Matt O’Connell, CEO of OneWeb. “Not only is it one of the key international hubs for the aerospace and satellite industries, but the area’s deep talent pool will be a tremendous asset as we continue to expand our operations, including finding a site for a network operations center and a satellite operations center.”

“The Ground Floor was specifically designed to be home to entrepreneurial companies with new and innovative platforms like OneWeb,” said Tim Helmig, president and chief operating officer of Monday Properties. “Our collaborative-themed Ground Floor has proven highly successful for our tenants. By providing an initial landing spot with flexible lease terms, the Ground Floor provides the flexibility a number of young, growing companies need to establish a presence and experience all that Rosslyn has to offer before potentially expanding their business to a larger space.”

Employment opportunities

The company is currently looking for engineers, managers, software architects and a corporate paralegal to fill 10 open positions for its Rosslyn location.

OneWeb will join other startup and early stage companies such as Dynamo Technologies who also recently leased space on the now fully leased Ground Floor. Dynamo Technologies is a growing company that provides program, strategy, financial and other management consulting services to its government customers including the Department of State, FBI, National Archives and Records Administration and Department of Homeland Security.

The Ground Floor features a 5,000 square foot shared common area that includes a kitchen, lounge area, collaborative meeting spaces, games, locker/shower facility as well as a custom stage for formal presentations and company social events.

The brokers

Dale Powell and Alex Hancock of Cushman & Wakefield represented OneWeb, LLC, in the lease transaction. Monday Properties was represented in-house by Mr. Helmig, John Wharton and Deniz Yener.
