Washington-Lee Wrestling Profile

Washington-Lee's young, talented team is looking for success.

Looking to stay healthy and be successful in his senior year, Washington-Lee High School Wrestler Nico Burns is ready to get to the heart of the Generals wrestling schedule.

Last year he was injured for part of the season but still managed to make it fairly deep in the regional tournament wrestling at 160. This year, the senior's goal is to make it to states at his current weight class of 171.

Washington-Lee High School Wrestling head coach Derek Sweet is in his third season with the Generals. He made his way toVirginia from upstate New York near Rochester.

"We have a really young and talented group. Right now, we have a couple guys out of the lineup with injuries," Sweet said. "However, I am excited for this team. There's lots of young talent."

The Generals have had some early season successes at 103 and 130 where those wrestlers are undefeated. In addition, there is a real interest in the program with 60 kids coming out for the sport this year, enough for a solid varsity and JV team.
