Ashburn Resident Named Alexandria ZPB’s 2011 Woman of the Year

The Alexandria Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. presented Attorney Angela Ciccolo, of Ashburn, with the 2011 Woman of the Year Award at its annual spring luncheon March 19 Arlington. As the first woman to serve as the NAACP’s General Counsel, Ciccolo managed all internal and external legal matters for the national organization.

“We are proud to honor the vision, passion and spirit of Angela Ciccolo through the Woman of the Year Award,” Chapter President Emmanuella DuPlessy said during the ceremony. “Ms. Ciccolo’s tireless dedication to promoting the interests of African Americans and persons with disabilities throughout the country provides an enormous contribution to the development of modern civil rights.”

Prior to joining the NAACP, Ciccolo served as a civil trial attorney in Washington, DC, with Ashcraft and Gerel. Ciccolo earned her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center after obtaining her bachelor’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown. She is a member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Virginia State Advisory Committee and served as an international election monitor for the 2006 Venezuelan Presidential election.
