A South Riding family can thank their dog for escaping a fire early Sunday in their house, a Washington TV station reported Monday.
About an hour before sunrise on Sunday, two adults and a child were awakened and alerted to the fire by the family’s 14-year-old dog, according to WUSA Channel 9. The home’s smoke alarms then went off and confirmed the fire, and the family evacuated the structure.

Soon after, at 6 a.m., fire and rescue units from Loudoun and Fairfax counties and Dulles Airport were dispatched to the house fire at 25918 Raflo Lane, according to the Loudoun fire department. They quickly extinguished the fire, which damaged the vinyl siding of the two-story, single-family house.
The child was transported to a local hospital by emergency personnel as a precaution, the fire department said. There were no injuries to any other civilians or fire and rescue personnel.
