Driver Arrested for DWI Near Elementary School

Motorist struck parked vehicle but kept moving, says Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Loudoun County sheriff’s deputies arrested a motorist for driving while intoxicated early Monday in Sterling after he tried to elude a deputy and hit a parked vehicle.

William H. Arias-Melendez, 22, of no fixed address was charged with DWI, felony eluding, driving without a license, reckless driving and hit and run, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at about 1:15 a.m. in the area of West Poplar Road and South Filbert Court, near Guilford Elementary School. A deputy saw a vehicle driving in the area with no headlights. The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver, identified as Arias-Melendez, continued without stopping.

The driver struck a parked vehicle and continued onto South Filbert Court before pulling into a driveway and coming to a stop, the sheriff’s office said.
