Police: Sterling Man Scares Away Burglary Suspect

Individual was wearing mask, says Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

In getting up before sunrise Friday, a Sterling man spotted someone who appeared to be a burglar on his back deck, but the individual disappeared before Loudoun sheriff’s deputies arrived.

The resident told the deputies that he woke up at 2:50 a.m. and went to the kitchen of his home, in the 21700 block of Canfield Terrace, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. He saw that the motion detector light on his back deck was activated, and observed an unknown individual outside.

The individual was wearing a mask and was described as a black man, 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 4 inches tall with a slim build. He fled the scene before deputies arrived. They canvassed the area but did not find the individual.
